Hotel Review: Hashimi Hotel

If you were thinking of visiting Al-Aqsa but changed your mind – change it back, the people of Al-Aqsa need you and they are waiting for you.

If you know me, you would know that I am a huge germaphobe and I am very picky when it comes to sleeping in a bed. But I can confidently say that I really loved Hashimi Hotel.

We stayed for 5 nights at Hashimi Hotel and I would go back and stay longer in a heartbeat. We had a five sleeper room with a view of the Qubbat as-Sakhra. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the aircon worked perfectly especially since the nights were cold.

Due to the low occupancy at the hotel, they were not serving breakfast. However, they gave us full access to the kitchen and the ingredients. We were honestly able to cook up a storm, especially for breakfast, using viennas and polony that we brought from home. The hotel will also order pizza for you and get it delivered straight to your room (Uber eats for who?).

The hotel has a coffee and tea bar on the lobby floor that is constantly stocked up. The tea was a hit with my parents and we loved the packet coffee.

There is an elevator that works from the basement which makes the hotel accessible for prams and wheelchairs and even for those times when you come back with lots of packets.

The best part of Hashimi is its prime location. It doesn’t take more than a few minutes to get to any of the gates to Masjid-ul-Aqsa. It also has a rooftop that offers the most breathtaking view of the Qubbat as-Sakhra.

The Hashimi staff are so friendly and ready to assist with any queries you may have throughout your stay.

Hashimi Hotel has been a South African favourite for years and I can see why. The people of Aqsa need us now more than ever. I would like to repeat myself and say that if you were thinking of visiting Al-Aqsa but changed your mind – change it back.

Sayyiditina Maymunah R.A., the freed slave of Nabi ﷺ, relates: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, give us a ruling regarding Bayt al-Maqdis.’ Nabi ﷺ said, ‘It is the land of Resurrection and Gathering. Go to it and pray there, for a prayer there is like a thousand prayers elsewhere.’ I said, ‘What if I am unable to travel there?’ Nabi ﷺ said, ‘Then send oil to be used in its lamps, for whoever does so is like a person who went there (i.e., and prayed).’”

Special shout out to Holy Rock Cafe which was our favourite spot to buy juice. When you exit Hashimi Hotel, turn left, walk a bit and then take your next left. He will not let you leave his shop without having mint lemonade so be sure to also buy some juice from him.
