Sunday – 29/12/2024 | Talaat Harb Square

We slept in until 10am, went down for breakfast where I had some more yogurt (I really wish I could’ve brought it home for my baby cousin because he would’ve loved it), and then we packed up everything.

After leaving our bags downstairs at the hotel, we needed to catch a taxi to Talaat Harb. I just wasn’t having any luck finding one so my parents and I decided to take a rickshaw there since it was only 3km away and I really wanted to sit in one of them.

Thirty minutes later, we were still on the rickshaw because the driver got lost and I ended up giving him directions. We got to a point and he was like he can’t go further than this point so we got off and had to wait again for a taxi.

The taxi arrived and it was a quick drive to Talaat Harb where we met up with my siblings again. Talaat Harb is a huge area with streets filled with different items. It was my favourite place to do some shopping in Cairo. We spent some time here and then went for lunch to Hardees’ which was a full circle moment because that’s where we had our first lunch.

After eating our burgers and securing some cookies to take home, we caught taxis again to go to Carrefour. It was about thirty minutes away. Most things aren’t so far, it just takes long because of Cairo traffic.

It’s always so much of fun to do some shopping in a local supermarket. I noticed that the supermarket had loads of specials and it had a huge variety of brands.

We wasted no time leaving the supermarket because at this point, I was stressing about getting to the airport on time. We even caught a sunset against the Cairo skyline. We got back to the hotel, packed away the groceries and got into taxis for the airport.

We wrapped our bags, stood in the line at the check in counter for the last time and finally felt at ease once all our bags were sent through.

After going through passport control, we had about an hour to kill before our flight so we went straight to the lounge, had some Alfredo pasta and Asian noodles.

We then left the lounge and went to the boarding gate where we proceeded to meet a plane full of South Africans and that’s when I started to get happy, home was near.
