Wednesday – 10/09/2025 | Johannesburg to Abu Dhabi

The only time I don’t mind waking up early morning is to catch a flight and I especially could not wait to catch this one.

We got dropped off at the airport, went to the bag drop and then straight to the lounge. I don’t why, but my family tends to forget about boarding times when we’re there, so once again we had to run to our boarding gate. (@ the rest of my family, I started missing you guys from here already).

We were next to last to board but thankfully, we made it. We settled into our seats and took off shortly. The air hostess came around with “breakfast” and the pasta was a solid 9/10 (extra green chilli would’ve made it a 10/10) and the cheesecake was really good.

I ended up watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and then fell asleep. They came around with coffee and wow, a simple packet coffee slaps so hard in the air. I then did the basic girl thing and watched Crazy Rich Asians.

A few hours later and then the pilot was saying “welcome to Abu Dhabi” and so began our holiday.

We walked for about 10 minutes, got to passport control which was super quick and then straight to pick up our bags. We walked out of the airport and the first thing that hit us was how hot it was at 8pm.

We caught a taxi and set off to our hotel. We’re so used to getting scammed by taxi drivers every trip that it was so refreshing to get into a taxi with a meter. Twenty minutes later, we caught our first view of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and then another 5 minutes later, we were in the hotel.

After a smooth check in, we went to our rooms and decided to order food on Talabat which is the Middle East version of Uber Eats. We had strict instructions from our cousins to have Wingstop first. It did not disappoint. The boneless wings and chicken tenders were the best we’ve ever had.

After supper, my brother and I decided to take a walk. Nothing feels better than walking outside late at night in a foreign country. We ended up at a Lulu Supermarket which had the coolest stuff and then walked back to the hotel to settle in for the night.
