Thursday – 18/01/2023 | Jummah ni raat in Madinah

Today, I woke up at 3pm in time for zohr. After reading salaah (zohr first and then asr) and freshening up, I went to Bin Dawood to buy some food. Bin Dawood is honestly my favourite grocery store. It has absolutely everything and you can actually get lost walking through the many floors.

I stopped at Zaitoon for some watermelon juice which became my favourite and went straight to the haram for maghrib.

I read salaah and then caught the most beautiful sunset. The sky was in ombré shades of purple and pink. I went back to the room for supper where we had Hardee’s burgers. My mamajees bought me coffee and my night was made.

We had some visitors between maghrib and Esha so we ended up reading Esha in the room.

Someone told us about Al-Qarraat Mall so we decided to go. We took a Careem which costs about 30 SAR and it was a twenty minute drive. The mall was in a bit of a dodgy area but looked promising (spoiler: it wasn’t) when we got inside.

It had floors of different items but unfortunately, we didn’t find anything to our liking. Besides buying an aeroplane balloon for Yusuf, we didn’t buy anything else.

We decided to go back to the Haram area and found ourselves in trusty old Movenpick. We walked around for a bit and we even found a little South African flag in one of the stores. After Movenpick, we made our way to Taiba Centre for our first bit of proper shopping.

We went back up to the room, rested and then decided to go for salaam to the Green Dome. The walk was peaceful and we got to just spend some time sending Durood directly to Nabi ﷺ. Jummah ni raat in Madinah is just different.

While walking back, we realised we were hungry and began walking around Madinah to find food at 4am. We found a little store that sold cheese samoosas and cheese parathas. The samoosas were decent but the parathas were not to our liking so we gave it out to some people and went in search of something else.

We ended up at From Medina to the World where the Turkey kiosk was open and got a cheese pide to share. It was so good but it was extremely cold so we decided to go back to the room to wait for Fajr.

We got to the room, warmed up a bit and then made our way down for Fajr salaah. Then we went upstairs and straight to sleep.
